If you’re a history nerd, you will love this book. It’s a firsthand account of the battle at Gettysburg from the perspective of a young 14-years-old resident who tried to flee the inevitable battle by going to a neighbor’s home on the outskirts of town (the Jacob Weikert farm). Instead she ended up square and center of it for the three days, helping care for the wounded in that farmhouse basement. Fascinating. Horrific. Scandalous. It’s a super fast read. Bought it at Gettysburg, read it just in two hours. This is a rich and wonderful variation of the original Tillie’s account of the battle. Several great Brady’s and other colored photos with incredible details are added. They make a superb and unmissable book!

This book is based on: At Gettysburg, or, What a Girl Saw and Heard of the Battle. A True Narrative, by Mrs. Matilda “Tillie” Pierce Alleman (1848-1914). New York, W. Lake Borland, 1889, and on Soldiershop book: American Civil war 150 years & 150 photos by Luca Stefano Cristini. No effort has been made to modernize or standardize the spelling used in the original text of Mrs. Pierce Alleman.
