Krimschild 1941-1942

The photographs in this book illustrate the battles of the 11th German Armee and Romanian units combined with it during Operation Barbarossa in Bressarabia and Ukraine and subsequent operations in Crimea. The 11th Armee, under the command of Generalobster Eugen Ritter von Schobert, will take part in the invasion of Russia by operating within the Heeresgruppe Süd, with the task of conquering the Crimea and ensuring the safety  of the right flank of the Heeresgruppe advance axis. Undreds of rare photographs, many of which taken at the height of action, show the first clashes in June 1941 of German and Rumanian troops on the Prut river and in Bressarabia, then hard fighting for the Stalin Line, pursuit of the enemy on the Dnieper and its crossing, actions on the Sea of Azov and the breaktrough of the Perekop isthmus, conquest of the Kerch peninsula and Crimea and the beginning of the Sevastopol siege. After defensive fights of winter 1941-1942, the last part of the book depicts the final assault of the 11th Armee, led at that time by Generalobster Erich von Manstein, to the fortress of Sevastopol and its formidable defences.

Le fotografie di questo libro illustrano le battaglie della 11ª Armee tedesca e delle unità rumene combinate con essa durante l’operazione Barbarossa a Bressarabia e in Ucraina e le successive operazioni in Crimea. La 11ª Armee, sotto il comando del Generalobster Eugen Ritter von Schobert, parteciperà all’invasione della Russia operando all’interno dell’Heeresgruppe Süd, con il compito di conquistare la Crimea e garantire la sicurezza del fianco destro dell’asse di avanzata dell’Heeresgruppe. Centinaia di rare fotografie, molte delle quali scattate al culmine dell’azione, mostrano i primi scontri del giugno 1941 tra le truppe tedesche e rumene sul fiume Prut e a Bressarabia, poi duri combattimenti per la linea di Stalin, inseguimento del nemico sul Dnieper e il suo attraversamento, azioni sul Mare di Azov e la frana dell’istmo di Perekop, la conquista della penisola di Kerch e della Crimea e l’inizio dell’assedio di Sebastopoli. Dopo i combattimenti difensivi dell’inverno 1941-1942, l’ultima parte del libro descrive l’assalto finale della 11ª Armee, guidata allora dal generale Erich von Manstein, alla fortezza di Sebastopoli e alle sue formidabili difese.
